Merry Christmas!

Hey guys,

So this last week was a rough one do to the amount of people that actually stayed in Masvingo. On Christmas day this place looked like a ghost town. Skyping you guys really made up for it though. To top it off something amazing happened on Saturday. Raymond was finally baptized! I had the absolutely sacred privilege of performing this ordinance. When he emerged from the waters he just had a big smile on his face :). I’ll send some pictures.

The work never stops, we could have some more baptisms in January. I also may have a different companion starting next week. There is Spiwe, Esther, Alice, Tatenda, and Tawananyashi. I don’t know about all of them, but we are hoping for the best!

I found my new favorite food in the world. Last night, Elder Brooks and I wrapped some potatoes in some tin foil, then placed them in the oven. We have no sour cream or cheese, but we improvised. We used butter, salt, some bbq mince with garlic and some peri peri hot sauce. It was incredible! And cheap!

Not much else happened between now and when we skyped so this email is short. Just know that I am pleased to be seen as one worthy enough to enter a soul through the gate, making that way possible for obtaining eternal life. I’m so happy for him, and I know he’ll do great things.

Much love,

Hey guys,

So Christmas is right around the corner! I’m so excited to talk with you guys! So there is an 8 hour time difference here, you should be expecting my call around 9am or 10am so that’ll be around 5pm or 6pm for me. Maybe earlier, just be prepared! I’ll try to make it a skype call but I can’t make any promises, I’ll see what I can do.

This last week was a rough one. We had scheduled a baptism for Saturday, but it didn’t happen. Hopefully he’ll show a sign of commitment. The work never stops though and we find new people to teach every day. We street contacted a guy named Tatenda last week and we had no idea how interested he was. To our surprise he came to church and accepted a baptismal date! He loves the Bible and the BOM has become his new favorite book.

I received some mail from Trinny last week, thank you so much Relief Society! That was awesome. No other packages yet though, I’ll probably receive it the next time I’m in Gweru. I can totally access my debit account here so Christmas money is much appreciated haha.

I totally thought of Natalie when I purchased the guitar. I bought it from another missionary (It’s really nice). I used it on Saturday for our branch Christmas party and sang some Christmas songs it was special.

Yes I’m bummed about Star Wars, but don’t say anything! When I call on Friday I want zipped lips! Also by the way, did you know that the Mission President at the Ghana MTC’s last name is Robison? We are both related to Lewis Robison so we’re related someway, somehow.

A lot of recipes that you’ve sent me won’t work because of one problem… milk. ALL the milk here is full cream. They let it ferment and get sour so I cant use milk :(.

I finished the Book of Mormon last week, and I’ve never been more convinced in my entire life about the truthfulness of the message it brings. I now know that for sure, Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, and I’m right where my Heavenly Father wants me to be.

Merry Christmas,

A lot of cake

Hey guys,

Guess how many birthdays we celebrated this week. For members and nonmembers alike we ate probably about 3 cakes and we have one in the fridge. Yeah, I’m still losing weight, but it was a good break from bananas, mango’s, sodza, and bread. The birthday traditions around here are about the same, but the people here are crazy haha, I’ll send you some pictures.
Last week we celebrated a birthday for one of the other elders investigators. We sang, shared cake, and had a lot of fun She even accepted a baptismal date as well! She really is a powerful investigator and the other elders are doing a great job. As for us on the other hand, our teaching pool is great, but it’s been really difficult to get people to commit. So far it looks like we’ll for sure have a baptism this month, maybe two. and then another 2 it looks like at the beginning of January.
Last week I could really feel the spirit strongly as I diligently stopped everyone I saw. Our numbers lead the zone, but I think there is still room for improvement. per week we’re averaging around 90 contacts and it’s been really awesome! The branch here still isn’t much help so a lot of this effort is making up for the lack of effort shown from them.
Christmas season just isn’t the same without all of the snow and family. I guess I’ll just have to make do with what I have. The sisters thought I was kidding when I told them I would make a sodza man instead of a snow man haha just watch. We’ll get a little tree, some lights, we’re going to celebrate what little we can. We also got some Christmas videos we can share with some of our investigators, that’ll be cool.
Anyways the rest has been same old. Hope your guys week was good. Sorry about the late email this last week was nuts.
Much love,
